Debate is emerging over the role of wealthy nations in creating an inequitable vaccine rollout, including restrictions on exports of vaccines, raw materials used to make them, and intellectual property held by vaccine companies, and the stockpiling of vaccines, all leading to a shortage of vaccines in developing countries. Globally, around 75% of the vaccines have gone to only 10 countries. In addition to pointing out how unjust this hoarding of vaccines is, people have highlighted how it may prevent the end of the pandemic. Rapid community spread in developing countries without sufficient vaccines can lead to new mutations of the virus that may become resistant to existing vaccines. To see an end to this pandemic there must be global cooperation and accountability for wealthy nations who choose to act selfishly.
Hostile architecture, known as anti-homeless architecture is a form of architectural design to prevent or impede crime and help maintain order. It is a trend in urban design that discourages the use of spaces in any way other than the intention of the owner or designer. This has existed all over the world in various ways, but the most harmful examples have come in the way of targeting the homeless community, an already marginalized group, many who look for a place to sleep or rest throughout the day.
here is a list of apps, toolkits, tips, and self-defense tactics to hopefully ease your mind when leaving the house – even though we shouldn’t have to.
first, it shouldn’t be our responsibility to stay safe – the priority should be on men educating themselves to respect us.
However, – we know that now, in this particular time, women may still be hesitant to leave their homes, especially with the tragic passing of Sarah Everard, the staggering statistic of 97%, and the countless attacks on women that we hear about on the news.
A wave of online activism sparked by the Black Lives Matter movement in response to police brutality and white supremacy flooded the internet and social media platforms in 2020. Emerging from this wave came educational infographics, blogs, and multimedia on anti-racism, which covered some terminology that became popularized during the movement. The word “unlearning” is one of them, and you may have already frequently heard it from many people online who sought to be better and “educate themselves” on anti-racism. In 2021 the oldest members of Generation Z will be 24 years old, making the bulk of this generation teenagers and young adults who are already starting to enter the workforce. While financial literacy may seem like another buzz word it actually might be one of the most valuable life skills a person can learn in their formative years. Mac Gardener, a certified financial planner and financial literacy advocate, even told CNBC he believes “the number-one behavior children learn from their parents is spending habits,”. This is something that can actually widen the wealth gap when we consider that wealthy families most likely have the luxury of resources to teach financial competencies to their children.

Nearly a year ago, police took the life of Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old woman who worked as an emergency room technician and posted her aspirations on notes around her apartment. Since then, her name has rung through the streets, worldwide and in the U.S., carried by impassioned chants and voices demanding accountability for the officers that killed her. Yet after an arduous year, officers Brett Hankison, Myles Cosgrove, Joshua Jaynes, and Jon Mattingly have yet to be charged for Breonna Taylor’s death. Accountability is far from accomplished and we are once again reminded of the cruel racism that plagues the U.S. “justice” system.

Society and weight gain has always had a long and unhealthy history. With the pandemic, and the so-called “Quarantine 15,” a spin-off of the “Freshman 15,” the perpetuation of diet culture has only increased. This is very dangerous, as dieting has a direct link to developing eating disorders. A higher use of the internet and social media has also expanded the reach of this issue. There is a detestably large amount of advice articles on the internet that provide tips for how to ‘Lose That Quarantine 15.’ With more activity on social media, there’s been an increase of weight loss pressure, especially with TikTok and other popular social media apps.
In 2017, Tolu Olowofoyeku, Hamid Ibrahim, and Fikayo Adeola, three friends from Nigeria and Uganda, found Kugali Media. Their vision was to create a pan-African media company aimed at telling stories of the African continent by Africans. They created a sci-fi Afrofuturistic comic-book called “Iwájú,” which roughly translates to “the future” in the West African language of Yoruba. 3 years later, in December of 2020, Disney announced a partnership with the company; it will be adapting the comic book into a science fiction animated series for Disney+ coming out in 2022. The show is to be set in Lagos, Nigeria and will explore issues like “class, innocence, and challenging the status quo”–themes all too relevant today.

Why are derogatory phrases like ‘ching chong’ so ingrained and embedded into people’s vocabulary, and are often dismissed as harmless jokes? How does the Model Minority Myth and East Asians’ perceived proximity to whiteness act as an underlying factor?
